For a long while now, artists have been fascinated by this ability of mankind to transform its dreams into nightmares. They often draw elements from the most commonplace reality, blending and assembling them in such a manner that their works reflect this fascination with or repulsion towards this human schizophrenia. As a metaphor, homeopathy3 would seem to correspond to the stance of the works presented in the context of this platform, the general atmosphere of which should be perused like a dystopic landscape where drawings, paintings, photographs, videos, volumes and installations form one corner.

Finland is a country of extremes. The sharp contrasts and natural rhythm of the seasons are being disrupted by the ever-faster pace of technology. Can contemporary art and design be evaluated solely in terms of beauty? As viewers of art, we often consider our everyday environment with aesthetic criteria. Stressed Beauty is an exhibition in which Finnish contemporary art and design challenge the notion of beauty from within their own traditions. In Stressed Beauty, the purity, aesthetic criteria of taste and politicized meanings of art are matched, via the works, by the personal interpretations of artists of the new manifestations of beauty.

Listed as one of Indonesia’s leading art collectors, Deddy Kusuma often describes himself simply as an ‘art-addict’. Having built his collections since the 1980s’, Kusuma admits that the idea of becoming a collector was a designation that he humbly never dreamt of, let alone pre-planned when he set out on his journey. From a modest hobby to a serious art collection, he trusts his instinctive and emotional ‘love-atfirst- sight’ reaction to art works as the only impetus that has fueled his passion in buying and ‘hunting’ for them. For Kusuma, collecting art is a bittersweet experience he never regrets. His motto is always “Buy the works that you like, as soon as you can, before everyone else has a chance to look at them.”

Antoine de Galbert’s engagement with art dates back nearly twenty-five years.
